Department Happenings

Sophomore Career Planning

In January, school counselors will meet with sophomores to discuss career exploration and planning topics using Naviance, including self-discovery, interests, skills, values, and tools such as career exploration, career clusters, and pathways. This will help students connect their academic experiences to future goals.

Students should be on the lookout for an email from their assigned school counselor with the scheduled date and time of their meeting.

Junior College Planning

School Counselors are currently meeting with Juniors for college planning and ensuring they have access to Naviance.

During junior college planning meetings, school counselors work with students to begin the college search process. Topics include researching colleges and majors, understanding admission requirements, building a balanced college list, planning for standardized testing, and reviewing timelines for applications, letters of recommendation, and Naviance tasks.

These meetings help students make informed decisions and prepare for a successful senior year and a smooth transition to post-secondary education.

All grade levels

Counselors will continue to meet with students to discuss their academic progress. If you notice that your child may be struggling academically, please encourage them to stay on top of their assignments and connect with their teachers.

If your child needs support, they can always meet with their assigned School Counselor for resources and helpful strategies!

Group Counseling

At the beginning of the school year, students were surveyed to determine if they would like to participate in a counseling group at BRHS. Students were asked which type of group they are interested.

BRHS counselors are running the following groups this school year.  Contact your counselor for more information!

  • Art Unlocked Group
  • Boys Group
  • Cancer Support Group
  • Unplug & Kick It Old School Group
  • The Calm Collective Group

Vo-Tech Application

Vo-Tech is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. The deadline to submit an application is January 23rd, 2026.

How students can book an appointment with their counselor:

Students can schedule an appointment with their assigned school counselor at any point during the school year by using the counselor’s YouCanBookMe link, which is posted in the counselor’s Google Classroom. To book an appointment, students simply log into Google Classroom, click the scheduling link, select an available date and time, and confirm the appointment. A confirmation email with the appointment details will be sent once the meeting is scheduled.

*January 15th, 2026: RVCC

**Students should sign up via Naviance to attend these events!

Juniors

Starting in January, Mrs. Kaiser will be hosting Lunch and Learn sessions in the career resource room in guidance during the lunch block.  Each month will feature a different topic-students should only sign up for one session per month.  January’s topic is “Where do I start?”  which focuses on how to approach the college process, whether you have an intended major or are undecided.  The topics will include various resources for conducting college searches, setting up visits/tours, and finding academic, social, and financial fit.

Please sign up via Mrs. Kaiser’s Google Classroom under the classwork tab.  Bring your lunch!   The Google Classroom code is: bq54mdyl

Seniors

An email was recently sent to all Seniors and their parents outlining the next steps to take if they have received decisions, whether it be acceptance, deferral, or waitlist.  Please take a moment to read it and reach out to Mrs. Kaiser with any questions or concerns.

A reminder that you should be checking your college portals to keep track of your application materials.  It can take them weeks to update them due to the volume of applications they receive, so please be patient if materials still show as missing.  You can check Naviance to see if your counselor documents and teachers' letters have been sent. Be sure to check your email regularly as well.

For any Senior who does not intend to pursue a 2-year or 4-year college, please make sure you meet with your counselor to discuss your future goals, or see Mrs. Kaiser if you need assistance in creating a plan.
